J.Crew Does Weddings

14Oct09
Not the style I'm going for for my fete, but the Penelope Gown ($695) is stylish and classy nonetheless (not to mention affordable). Who knew J.Crew did weddings?

KenzieKate Has My Number

13Oct09
When you get married (for the first time, natch), you come across all kinds of unexpected expenses. And those of which were expected, you find out exactly how much of your budget they will ACTUALLY eat up. $2,000 for invitations? Well, if I'm going to be spending that kind of money, they better resemble this KenzieKate set which caught my eye. Classy and modern, I'm digging the blue color against the natural envelopes.

She's also got an amazing companion wedding blog, which shows off her personal style. But really folks, I'm totally DIY'ing this part of the event. I have a really good printer, you know.

The Venue: Sonoma Secret Garden

12Oct09
I found the Sonoma Secret Garden during an intense Google search for wedding venues, and was just about to give up when I found this great place on someone else's wedding website — thanks random married couple! The place doesn't do any advertising (they get all of their event business from word-of-mouth), and we immediately fell in love with it when we saw it for the first time on a Friday night during a rehearsal dinner. The white lights, round chandeliers in the trees, and the various different spaces within the yard sold it for me, but really, it was the owner that put me at ease and made me feel like she was an old friend, not a business woman trying to take my money. Rates for renting the Sonoma Secret Garden are $4800 for the day, plus three site visits, and a two hour block the day before the event for rehearsals. With all the research I've done, this seems like a steal, especially since there's no corkage fees on your BYO alcohol!

I Love You, Melissa Sweet

11Oct09
In every single bridal magazine I've looked at (and there have been many), I'm always drawn to Melissa Sweets rouching, ruffles, and strapless designs.

Its actually kind of surprising since I don't normally go for frill and ruffles, but I guess Melissa brings out the girly girl in me. Behold my current obsession: Sylvana. It's marked at three dollar signs ($$$), which I'm pretty sure means out of my price range.

When Bridal Magazines Attack

11Oct09
Confession: I spent $45 dollars on bridal magazines in one trip to the bookstore, and have only been engaged for two weeks. Can anyone top that?
