Frackin' Awesome STD's (Save The Dates)

05Nov09

It's funny how you come across things that you absolutely love and want to adopt for your own wedding, as I found these awesome save the dates through a Style Me Pretty post that showed off Emily and Meeko's amazing wedding in Tiburon earlier this week. Emily's nuptuals made me uber jealous from her yellow sweater right down to her awesome bridesmaids dresses (even better — she DIY'd the entire event), and I later found out that she runs an Etsy shop called Frenchie and Flea specializing in invites and announcements, and one save the date in particular I couldn't stop thinking about.

The Modern save the date has a photo on the front with your event deets on a plain white back which looks classy and simply amazing combined with the pic she chose. With the price being set at $145 for 100 custom cards (with your own photo, natch) and color-coordinated envelopes, I'd say thats a great deal indeed.

Found: Yellow Flower Balls (Not The Real Name)

04Nov09

I've been on the hunt for the name of these little yellow round flowers ever since I picked up my first wedding magazine. Scouring blogs, I came across more people using them in their weddings (read: jealousy), but not a name to be found. Since I'm leaning towards yellow and grey for our colors, I thought these beauties would be the perfect hue for the combo. Finally, I turned to CasaSugar, one of my favorite blogs, for answers. Of course, Casa came through!

Called Billy Buttons (aka Craspedia), these dried flowers hail from their native Australia, and Casa suggested paring them with succulents, which only confirmed what I had already been thinking of for a bouquet. Now if only the bushel price is right for a girl on a budget, you'll have a happy bride-to-be.

The New Hotness: Matthew Christopher

31Oct09

Seriously? I die. These dresses from Matthew Christoper are right up my art deco loving alley. I adore the sleek lines and interesting details of his gowns, but the high price (anywhere from $2500 - $5000) makes me a little depressed. But not all is lost: you can find his designs online for less at Half Bridal. For me, it all comes down to these two dresses, Moet and Chrysler. I better start saving now!

Color Therapy: Grey and Yellow

20Oct09

No matter how you look at it, grey and yellow is a striking combo fit for a retro styled wedding. I'm considering the paring for my own nuptials, and after checking out some of these photos, I'm growing more in love with it every day.

Hitched Test Kitchen: Vanilla Bean Cake with Plum Cream Cheese Frosting

15Oct09
One of the first things my mom asked me about when I told her I was engaged was the cake. Baking runs in my family (it skipped a generation with me), and since I asked her and my aunt to make my wedding cake, she was excited to get started on testing cake recipes. I found something that made me totally swoon, so we decided to try it out. It's a vanilla bean cake with spiced plum cream cheese frosting, and it's more heavenly than I had imagined. I was attracted to it because of its subtle purple color in the magazine pic I saw (purple was is one of the colors we're considering for the wedding), but making it ourselves, it turned out a little more pink than purple. Either way? Yummy. She made the vanilla bean cake from scratch (have you purchased vanilla bean lately? $10 per bean. That's right.), which ended up being too thick for the rich and creamy frosting, so next time we're thinking of cheating with a fluffy boxed version. Thankfully, plums are in season for our end of September wedding, so I'm already in love with this idea. Check out more cake pics (if you dare) when you read more.
